Other personalities with 'Lambert' as part of their names

Believe or not, one of the staff in SGH has "Lambert" as part of her surname. Her pa pa is Portuguese which probably explains it. She was there at the labour ward on the delivery day. Friendly lady.

Lance Lambert (born in 1931) is known among many as a Bible scholar, international speaker and author. After finding out about his Jewish ancestry on his mother’s side, Lance Lambert’s teachings received a definite emphasis on the role of Israel in God’s plan for mankind. Many of his teaching tapes, books and pamphlets are dedicated to this particular topic. He visited Israel regularly from 1967 on and became an Israeli citizen 13 years later. Lance's quarterly Audio Updates are recorded in Jerusalem, where he can be heard giving his unique perspective on current events in the Middle East, in the light of God's Word. This ministry is operated through CFI. Christian Friends of Israel (CFI) is a charitable, non-profit, international evangelical Christian ministry legally registered in Israel with headquarters based in Jerusalem.

Well, I remember Lance Lambert best as the presenter in Jerusalem, The Covenant City.

Christophe Guy Dénis Lambert (better known as Christopher Lambert) is the son of French parents and was born in New York in 1957. Most would remember him as the star in the Highlander movies and Greystoke: The Legend Of Tarzan Lord Of The Apes.

Name-o-logy: Cao Lucheng

Lambert’s Chinese name is Cao Lucheng 曹律成

Lu means law
Cheng means fulfilled

{Pronounced as Lyu-cheng}
Lucheng’s Chinese name is a picture of Law being Fulfilled in and through Christ Jesus

Inspired from the Holy Bible:
In the book of Romans 13:8-10 ...
"8 Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for he who loves his fellowman has fulfilled the law. 9 The commandments, “Do not commit adultery,” “Do not murder,” “Do not steal,” “Do not covet,” and whatever other commandment there may be, are summed up in this one rule: “Love your neighbour as yourself.” 10 Love does no harm to its neighbour, therefore love is the fulfilment of the law."

This verse can be easily misunderstood if it is not examined from a ‘Big Picture’ perspective. The ‘Love’ that Paul speaks of here is not the sentimental humanitarian kind of love but a love that stems from a transformed life, wrought about through the power of the good news of Jesus Christ.

Romans: the big picture…

In Chapters 1-3, Paul establishes that Jews are as condemned as non-Jews (Gentiles) without Christ. And then he goes on to make a case that salvation belongs to spiritual and not ethnic descendents of Abraham since Jews are also descendents of the sinner Adam (5:12-21). In Romans chapters 7 and 10, Paul pointed out that Jews cannot be made righteous by the law. All these are established to get the Jews to understand that the law can only demand righteousness while Christ alone provides righteousness. Therefore, they are persuaded to show loving acceptance to non-Jewish (Gentile) Christians who do not consciously practice Mosaic laws but have Christ in their hearts. It is an appeal for unity.

So the heart of Romans is about racial reconciliation through a correct understanding of Christ and the law’s role in salvation. Paul is addressing Jewish Christians here to love their fellow Gentile believers. And in so doing, they are fulfilling the paramount purpose of the Mosaic law, which is to love God and neighbour. But understand that the law was not given strictly to get men to love but the law was given on a primary plane to get men to despair. The law acts as a mirror to reflect how far men fall short of God’s ways of love so that men will hope for a Saviour. Well, the Saviour came in the person of Jesus Christ.

Jesus says in Matthew 5:17: “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.

The Law is fulfilled in the perfect life that Jesus lived when He walked this earth some 2000 years ago. On the other hand, the law was perfectly broken by the lawlessness of men down through the history of humanity. So Jesus, the sinless Son of God went to the cross at age 33 to effect a divine exchange. At the cross, Jesus gave to us His perfect law-keeping while He took upon Himself our perfect law-breaking and the divine punishment that we deserved fell upon Him while the divine blessings that he deserved fell upon us. And By His Stripes We Are Healed!

So to all who trust in Jesus as Saviour, they have fulfilled the law inwardly in Christ. Just as Jesus was declared totally sinful at the cross (even though He committed no sin), in the same way, Christians are declared totally righteous when they trust in Christ’s work at the cross (even though they had done no righteous deeds). However, the Christian journey doesn’t just stop there. Paul in Romans 13 is appealing to Christian Jews to ensure the outworking of what they have received inwardly. They have received the gift of righteousness, now they ought to walk in that righteousness through love. They ought to show love to their non-Jewish Christian brothers in loving acceptance. And this love is not propelled by willpower, but it is built upon the foundation of Christ’s love as expressed through His sacrifice at the cross.

In Galatians 6:2, Paul also says:
“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.”
- see how loving relationships is truly at the heart of Christ’s law?

However, are Christians under the Mosaic law? Well, that depends on the definition of ‘under’. Paul himself states that he is not ‘under’ the Mosaic law in 1 Corinthians 9:20:
“To the Jews I became like a Jew, to win the Jews. To those under the law I became like one under the law (though I myself am not under the law), so as to win those under the law.”

To be ‘under’ the law means to depend on law-keeping to have right-standing with God. However, as Christians, the basis for us, having right-standing with God is not the Mosaic law. Our basis is Christ crucified. The cross. The atoning work. The divine exchange. John 3:16.

The paradoxically ironic thing is that even though Christians are no longer under the law, in practice, we still perform the stipulations of the law as we yield to the directions of the Holy Word and the Holy Spirit. But the difference between one who is under law and one who is not is the issue of motivation. The one under law does the law to obtain righteousness but the Christian does the law, being motivated by love… Christ’s love for us; our love for God and our love for neighbour.

To sum it all up, we can see that the law is fulfilled at two levels. At one level, the law is fulfilled through Christ's perfectly righteous life in which he has given to us at the cross. But having received righteousness through Christ, the law would be fulfilled at a second level when Christians walk in love. This walking in love as a result of a life transformed by the power of the gospel is what Paul is talking about in Romans 13:10… Love is the Fulfilment of the Law. So Romans 13:10 is talking about a Christian’s Spirit-Empowered love that brings about the fulfilment of the law at a so called second level. Therefore, we can say that Christ’s love for us, that led Him to come down to this earth as men’s representative in living a perfect life has brought fulfilment of the law at a foundational level (Matthew 5:17) where the love in Romans 13:10 is built upon.

In Chinese, Love is the Fulfilment of the Law reads:
Ai Cheng Quan le Lu Fa 爱成全了律法
... interesting how the first two words in hanyu pinyin is the mummy's name :)

In other words, Lambert’s name is a picture of LOVE ;)

Name-o-logy: Lambert

Baby Lambert… the name is not exactly inspired by Mr. Highlander – Christopher Lambert, although we are believing God for Lambert to be placed on spiritual high ground by God’s grace and have mountain-top prayer encounters :)

But really, the name is inspired by the cartoon: Lambert the Sheepish Lion!

Lambert the Sheepish Lion is a very special cartoon. This cartoon is a Disney classic. One of my all time favourite cartoon. It was produced in 1952, most of us are not even born yet. Btw, this cartoon was actually nominated for an academy award.

The thing about Lambert the sheepish lion is that it is very Messianic. I personally find that Lambert is somewhat of a parable of Jesus. Jesus came to His own, but His own received Him not. Just as in Jesus’ first coming, His Jewish brothers rejected Him, Lambert was also rejected by his sheepish brothers, but when the time came for him to manifest the lion in him, he destroyed the works of the wolf (just as Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil) and his sheepish brothers now hail him as Saviour of the flock.

And this parallels very nicely with Jesus’ second coming; when the Messiah shall return, the Jews will finally recognized Jesus as the Messiah; they will look upon Him whom they have pierced and they will say “ Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!” in that time, like what Paul says in Romans 11:26, all Israel will be saved. All Israel will acknowledge Jesus as King of kings and Lord of lords. Then finally, Jesus will known by the Jewish flock as Saviour.

The end time picture that John reveals of Jesus in the book of Revelations is that of a Lamb that was slain and a Lion from the tribe of Judah in victory. This melding of lamb and lion imagery suggests a conquest that have been won not by destructive power and might, but through obedience and suffering. The victory has been decisively won at the cross, where Jesus came as the suffering servant; where Jesus came as a lamb to the slaughter. Yet the world has yet to witness the full manifestation of that victory. But there will come a time; a time where the Messiah will return and completely eradicate the works of the devil. Where the last enemy, death, will be put under the feet of Jesus.

And we are all expectantly awaiting this second coming. We are eagerly anticipating the return of the King! Jesus came some 2000 years ago as the Lamb of God, and He shall return triumphantly as the Lion of Judah.

Remember the Chronicles of Narnia by CS Lewis? The key character there is Aslan. What kind of an animal is Aslan? Very obviously, CS Lewis got his inspiration form Revelations where Jesus is referred to as the Lion of the tribe of Judah. Aslan is another parable of Jesus where he also died and rose again in victory. Of course, CS Lewis wanted Chronicles to be deliberately Christian, I don’t know if Lambert the Sheepish Lion is deliberately made to be Messianic, but I think Lambert the Sheepish Lion is a lot cuter than Chronicles, which has a more serious disposition.

By the way, Lambert is actually a German name which means "Bright Land"
